Journey Through a Natural Spectacle

Start from the center of Žabljak and begin your adventure along the Durmitor Ring.

Right at the beginning, we recommend stopping at the Ćurevac viewpoint, which offers a magnificent view of the Tara River Canyon – the deepest canyon in Europe!

As you continue your journey, fairytale landscapes, green pastures, authentic villages, and dramatic mountain cliffs will unfold before you.

Vidikovac Ćurevac iznad kanjona rijeke Tare na Durmitoru — The Ćurevac viewpoint offers a spectacular view of the Tara River Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe.

The panoramic road from the center of Žabljak first winds north towards the settlement of Bosača, from where it continues towards Momčilov Grad and the old ski resort. From there, a gentle ascent begins towards Štuoc, while a view of the northern side of Crvena Greda opens up on the left.

A few hairpin bends lower, the road descends towards a mountain village with the striking name of Mala Crna Gora. Mala Crna Gora lies right on the edge of the Sušica River Canyon. On the opposite side of the canyon is the village of Nedajno.

These two places are only a few hundred meters apart as the crow flies, but the road connection between them is as long as 16 kilometers. A few elderly residents still live in Mala Crna Gora throughout the year.

Viewpoints along this part of the ring seem to emerge from behind every bend. The scenery changes constantly, culminating first in a view from above and then from within the canyon itself – towards the surreal Sušica Lake, which fills with water in spring. Sušica is also the lowest point of the ring.

After one last look at the grand canyons near Nedajno, a gentler section of the route follows across the mountain plateau. The road passes by the old village of Trsa.

The road from Trsa towards Žabljak turns back east, passes through the small village of Pišče, and gradually climbs into the mountain massif.

In Todorov Do, Prutaš comes into view — a jewel of the mountain, with its unusual vertical striations, a picturesque relic of glacial melting processes on Durmitor.

After Todorov Do comes Dobri Do. The twin peaks of Sedlena Greda confidently dominate the southern Durmitor horizon.

Sedlo, at 1,906 meters above sea level, is the highest point of the Durmitor Ring. On the way back towards Žabljak, the route descends above Valovito, Modro, and Srablje lakes, beneath the striking Stožina peak.

Travel Tips

The Durmitor Ring is marked in both directions. Follow the brown signs labelled “Panoramic Roads” with the number 2.

If you are using the audio guide, follow the route counterclockwise.

If you are travelling by camper van, driving clockwise is recommended, as this section is not suitable for larger campers.

Always check road conditions and drive carefully.
