Bobotov Kuk – The Lord of Durmitor
BOBOTOV KUK – 2523m – the lord of Durmitor! It is the highest peak of the Durmitor mountain range. It is also the highest peak in Montenegro. It was named after the Bobota tribe who herded cattle near it.
Bobotov Kuk (2,523 m) is the highest peak of the Durmitor massif and the highest mountain summit located entirely within Montenegro. Rising above the heart of Durmitor National Park, it is one of the country's most iconic mountaineering destinations.
According to local tradition, the peak was named after the Bobota family or brotherhood, whose shepherds once grazed livestock in this area. An older name associated with the peak was Ćirova Pećina, linked to a local legend about a hunter named Ćiro.
The first recorded ascent of Bobotov Kuk is associated with Austrian geographer and explorer Oscar Baumann in 1883.
Together with Bezimeni Vrh and Đevojka, Bobotov Kuk forms the spectacular high-mountain formation known as Soa Nebeska.
