Riblje Lake
Riblje Lake is one of the 18 glacial lakes found within Durmitor National Park. Situated in the valley known as “Grčka strana”, at an altitude of 1,409 metres, the lake stands out for its unspoilt natural beauty and peaceful surroundings. It is located just 500 metres from Vražje lakeand approximately 10 kilometres from Žabljak, making it an easily accessible yet remarkably tranquil natural destination.
Riblje Lake is of glacial origin and reaches a maximum depth of approximately 5.5 metres. The lake takes its name from its traditionally rich fish population and is a popular destination for nature lovers and recreational anglers.
Cultural and Historical Heritage: Stećci of Novakovići
Approximately 200 metres northwest of Riblje Lake, in the village of Novakovići, lies a medieval necropolis known as Grčka nekropola.
Covering an area of approximately 500 m², the necropolis contains 49 stećci oriented along an east–west axis. These include 10 slab-shaped tombstones, 27 chest-shaped tombstones and 12 gabled tombstones. Twenty-two of the monuments feature various decorative motifs and symbols, including stylised crosses, shields, human figures carrying swords and hunting scenes. Although the tombstones bear no inscriptions, it is believed that prominent individuals from the wider area were buried here between the 14th and 16th centuries.
The stećci of Novakovići are made from white-grey limestone and form part of the shared cultural heritage of the region. In 2016, the site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the transnational property “Stećci – Medieval Tombstone Graveyards”.
