Ranisava – 2084m

RANISAVA – 2084 m – (Peak above Blue Lake) – next to Sedlena greda, it represents the most prominent peak in the Pošćenska Valley. Its impressive northern rock immediately attracts the attention of everyone who passes the Jezerski surface, especially on the asphalt road through the Poščenska dolina towards Sedel.

The Ranisava peak is part of a ridge that extends above the Pošćenska Valley in a northwest-southeast direction. Above this valley, on its southeast side, Ranisava descends with its steep screes towards one of the pearls of Durmitor – the Blue Lake, while on the other side, with its rocky slopes, it falls towards the source part of the Bukovica.

The Ranisava massif has two peaks – the North and South Peaks, which are connected by a rocky ridge secured by a cable. Ranisava got its name from the rich pastures and the early raising of herds on them. Below the Ranisava scree in the Pošćenska Valley is the picturesque Modro Jezero (Blue Lake), which, along with the nearby Srablje, contributes to the special beauty of this valley.

View from Ranisava: 

The Ranisava peak is part of a ridge that extends above the Pošćenska Valley in a northwest-southeast direction. The Ranisava massif has two peaks – Northern and Southern, which are interconnected by a sharp rocky ridge secured by a cable. The view from Ranisava extends towards Ivica, Grabovica, Bukovica, Vojnik, Boljske Grede, Lojanik, Bobotov kuk, Bandijerna, Šljemen, Sedlena Greda, Uvita Greda and Njegovuđa, and to the east towards Sinjajevina and the Moračke Mountains. From Ranisava, all four lakes of the Pošćenska Valley can also be seen: Modro, Srablje, Valovito and Suva lokva.

Climbing season:

The most suitable period for climbing is from May to October. 

Protection and security: Due to the lack of markings and the crossing of steep rocky and grassy slopes, climbing this peak is recommended only in good and stable weather, accompanied by a guide, bringing sufficient amounts of water and using hiking equipment.

Importance and recommendations for visitors: Ranisava was named after its rich pastures and the early raising of herds on them; some also called it Strašivica, because it was believed to be the habitat of wolves that arrived there from Dragišnica and Grabovica. Since Ranisava joins Sedlena Greda in the southwest, the area where they join is called Stogovi, while the area on the slopes is called Jablan do, which denotes a spacious rocky plateau on which the poplar flower grows. Nearby is Šuk's cave, where, according to legend, a frightened wild boar hooked the hunter Šuk with its horns and threw him down the rocks. Below the scree of Ranisava in the Pošćenoska Valley is the picturesque Modro jezero, which, along with nearby Srablje, contributes to the beauty of this valley.
