Bobotov Kuk – 2523m

BOBOTOV KUK – 2523m – (MASTER OF DURMITOR) – is the highest peak of the Durmitor mountain range. It is also the highest peak in Montenegro. It was named after the Bobota tribe that herded cattle in its vicinity.

This peak was previously called Ćirova Pećina, named after the hunter Ćir, who, according to legend, mistakenly killed his son while hunting in the fog, thinking it was a chamois. Then the peak was called Ćirova Pećina, after the small half-cave below Bobot's hip where the hunter Ćiro had his hunting lodge. However, today that cave is no longer there, it was broken by lightning and destroyed by storms. Since it was also illogical that the mountain top was called "Cave", it was later called BOBOT'S HIP. The first alpinist ascent of Bobot's hip was made in 1883 by the Austrian cartographer Dr. Oscar Baumann.

Looking from Žabljak, Bobotov Kuk dominates all other peaks, giving a special stamp to the beauty and colossalness of the Durmitor massif. From the top of Bobotovo Kuk, there is an indescribable high-mountain panorama of the entire massif, because all the other peaks are below.

The ascent to Bobot's hip is the most beautiful encounter with the extremely diverse and specific relief of the mountain, created as a result of the strong action of glaciation, which is characterized by extraordinary shapes and traces, the richness of the landscape, relief and diversity of the mountain's beauty.

View from Bobotov kuk: Bobotov Kuk is dominant and impressive and can be easily seen from the peaks of almost all the highest mountains in Montenegro. When viewed from Žabljak, Bobotov Kuk dominates above all other peaks, giving a special touch to the beauty and colossal nature of the Durmitor massif.

From the top, an indescribable high mountain panorama of the entire Durmitor massif stretches out, because all the peaks are below you. From the north to the east, from left to right, Rbatina, Obla glava, Čvorov Bogaz, Crvena Greda, Međed, Terzin and Minin Bogaz line up, and behind them, Savin Kuk, Šljeme, Bandijerna and Zupci. While to the south, the view overlooks Đevojka, Šarene pasove, Prutaš and Gruda, and below, the beautiful Škrka valley with two Škrka lakes.

To say something about Durmitor… without it having already been said – it is hardly possible! Although its fascinating beauty, old stories and legends are widely known, we would like to remind you that its highest peak is Bobotov Kuk (2,523 m above sea level), which is also the highest peak in Montenegro, from the point of view that the highest peak is considered to be the one that is entirely within the territory of that country. Climbing it is the greatest pleasure for all mountaineers! Climbing Bobotov Kuk is the most beautiful encounter with the extremely diverse and specific relief of the mountain, created as a result of the strong action of glaciation, more intense than that in the Alps, which is characterized by extraordinary shapes and traces even from the earlier Tertiary tectonic folding of the earth's crust.
