Vjetrena Brda – 2231m

WINDY HILL – 2231m – (Peak with the deepest pit in the Balkans) – on the southern side of the Durmitor massif, north above the Žabljak-Trsa road, are Vjetrena Brda, whose name is primarily known due to the presence of the deepest cave on Durmitor, which is located only thirty meters below the summit, at an altitude of 2196m. This cave was discovered by a 52-member international speleological expedition „Durmitor 1985“. Members of this expedition descended into the cave to a depth of 897.5m, which revealed the deepest cave in the Balkans – Vjetrena jama. Vjetrena Brda is also specific in that the edelweiss flower grows there.

HEIGHT DIFFERENCE: 324m;

MARKING: The section from Sedlo to Suvi Tavani is marked, the remaining short section to the top is unmarked, although the top can be reached in just 10 minutes of gentle ascent on clear, grassy and safe terrain.

• Dobri do – Ravne police – pass on Vjetreni Brdi – Surutka – Suvi tavani – Vjetreni Brdi

MARKING: The section Dobri do – Previja, as well as Surutka – Vjetrena brda are not marked. There are markings in Surutka towards Sedlo, Elen vir and Bobotov kuk, as well as towards Škrka via the Samar pass.

View from Vjetrene Brda: Vjetrena Brda, with its gentle and rounded peaks, is a place for a day-long vacation and enjoyment of the view of Bobotov Kuk, nearby Zupci, the southern cliffs of Bandijerna, Milošev Tok and Šljemen. The view leaves visitors breathless, especially in the evening, when the sun illuminates the rocks of these peaks with its orange-reddish color.

Climbing season:

The most suitable period for climbing is from May to October. 

Protection and security: Caution is advised when crossing the exposed section in Uvita Greda, as well as checking the weather forecast,

bring enough water and

use of mountaineering equipment.

Importance and recommendations for visitors: Although less frequently visited by mountaineers, due to the fact that the peaks of Vjetreni Brda are somewhat inconspicuous, Vjetreni Brda connects the valleys of Dobri dol and Surutka, and the mountain itself towers over several valleys that surround it on all sides. Only thirty meters below the peak, at an altitude of 2196m, is the deepest cave on Durmitor (897.5m), discovered by an international speleological expedition. .
