Žabljak – Roof of the Balkans

We are pleased to inform you that the fourth edition of TEF Fest (Tourism and Ethnographic Film Festival) in Krk, Croatia, was held from 22 to 25 September 2026.

The festival is an important event that celebrates travel, cultural heritage, and local traditions through visual storytelling.

The 2026 selection was the most competitive to date, with more than 130 entries submitted.

A total of 84 films were selected for the official programme in the categories of tourism, ethnographic, and documentary film.

The promotional film "Žabljak - Roof of the Balkans" won first and third place in the following official festival categories:

First and third place in the following official festival categories:

🥇 1st Place (Gold Plaque / Best Film): In the Ethnographic and Documentary Film category from the regional/international selection, where the jury recognised the authentic portrayal of the way of life, traditions, and coexistence between people and Durmitor.

🥉 3rd Place (Bronze Plaque): In the official International Tourism Film category, where the promotional aspects, destination appeal, and overall visual impression the film creates for potential tourists were evaluated.

This double success, in both the documentary-ethnographic and tourism segments, placed Žabljak among the top achievements of this year's festival in Krk.

The promotional film "Žabljak - Roof of the Balkans" is the official video of the Tourist Organization of Žabljak and the Municipality of Žabljak, produced by Miri Media.

The creative team consists of producer Mirjana Miladinović and creative director Kenan Turan.

The film presents Žabljak in an artistic and visually impressive way as the highest urban centre in the Balkans, situated at the foot of the majestic Durmitor.

Through high-production visuals, the film follows the inseparable connection between the mountain and the town – from the monumental depths of the Tara Canyon, across vast mountain meadows, to the mystical and tranquil surface of Crno Lake.

The focus of the film is on untouched nature, the quiet strength of the highlands, and a way of life built entirely on a deep respect for the mountain massif.
